Start and Finish Point - Plataran Bromo
Perched high in the foothills of Bromo, Plataran Bromo serves as a gateway into Bromo Tengger Semeru National Park – a UNESCO World Heritage Site. The surrounding landscape offers spectacular views of agricultural plantations; a patchwork of green plantations and orchards, woven into the rolling hills that fan out from the doorstep of Plataran Bromo. During Fjällräven Indonesia Discovery 2019, Plataran Bromo will also represent the event’s official start and finish line.

Participants can register at Plataran Bromo From 12pm to 9pm on July 25th, where they will receive their official discovery pack and participant number. Here they can also store their luggage, admire the views, get some rest and prepare for the event, before a nourishing breakfast on the morning of July 26th. Check-in will also reopen for late arrivals on the morning of July 26th, from 4 am to 5 am.

Day 1: July 26
Setting off at intervals in small groups, the participants journey into the park and towards the first checkpoint on their travels: Kingkong Hill, rising 2,600 meters above sea level. Alongside Love Hill, this vantage point – named after the giant gorilla whose face it is said to resemble – offers spectacular views over the Bromo Tengger Semeru caldera at sunrise.

Trekkers then head to Mount Bromo itself, where they will discover not only its dramatic beauty, but also the cultural resonance of these storied slopes in the local Tenggerese culture. The centerpiece of a legend that dates back to Java’s mighty Majapahit empire, Bromo is a spectacular and mysterious hub around which generations of history and heritage continue to revolve.

The day’s trekking concludes at Watu Dukun – an area of approximately 300 – 400m². This location is a place of worship and ancient rituals for the region’s Tenggerese shamans. Comprising a grassy meadow sheltered by rocks, this is also a safe and fascinating place to camp for the night.

Day 2: July 27
Following breakfast at the campsite, the adventure continues with a trek to Jarak Ijo – a hamlet to the southwest of Bromo in refreshingly cooler climes above the clouds.

The unique Bromo Tengger Semeru park offers a diverse and surprising array of landscapes to explore. One such area features lush pastures and rolling gullies, dubbed the New Zealand of East Java. The adventure continues to the hillside checkpoint of Tamping / Puncak Tawang Angin.

The second day concludes at a conservation area dedicated to planting. At dusk, the location is bathed in the glorious colors of sunset, making this campsite a picturesque place to end the day.

Day 3: July 28
Dawn on day 3 will herald the final leg of the adventure, as trekkers set off towards Ngawu, where lunch is served. The journey then concludes where it all began, at Plataran Bromo, where a delicious and celebratory BBQ dinner will be served at Putri Dewi Amphitheater.

Plataran Bromo is a destination where guests can immerse themselves in the natural beauty of Bromo through comfortable lodging, authentic culinary experiences, rich cultural entertainment, nature-inspired activities, and thrilling sports events. Plataran takes visitors off the beaten track and deeper into the natural and cultural attractions of the area.
