Plataran Announces Ecotourism Festivals, in Celebration of Indonesia’s Treasures

Once again, Plataran Indonesia has won an international award for excellence in the field of sustainability and conservation through its Eco Tourism Development division - Plataran L’Harmonie in West Bali National Park, Indonesia. Plataran L’Harmonie has been recognized as the winner in the Planning and Design of Scenic Areas of Tourism Destination category at the 14th Global Forum on Human Settlements (GFHS).

Plataran L’Harmonie is the first Indonesian hospitality company, the first national park and the first eco-development project within its country ever to receive this award. The awards recognize ecology efforts and excellence by cities, groups and individuals in their work to develop scenic spots, buildings, transport, design and technology towards a greener good.

The Sustainable Cities and Human Settlements Award (SCAHSA) is a worldwide prize given by GFHS.  With support from the United Nations Environment Program (UNEP), United Nations Economic Commission for Africa (UNECA), the International Telecommunication Union (ITU) and the World Urban Campaign (WUC), the awards support the implementation of sustainable development goals worldwide.

Winners at the forum have to fulfil a range of criteria relating to environment, culture and economy, while also demonstrating a commitment to natural and cultural development. Plataran L’Harmonie was recognised in the Planning and Design category for its ability to build a resort community with minimal disruption to the surrounding flora and fauna, and in harmony with the local hydrology and topography.

As a True Indonesian Icon, Plataran is proud and privileged to represent Indonesia on a global stage, demonstrating the nation’s commitment to conservation of natural and cultural heritage, while also showcasing the progress being made nationwide towards more sustainable development. Plataran was the only Indonesian private-holding nominated in this year’s awards, following on from the success of 2017, when Surabaya was named a Global Green City at GFHS. Plataran is an Indonesian company, made by Indonesians and for Indonesians, in order to raise the status of the nation on an international level and share the wonders of Indonesia with the world.

About Plataran L'Harmonie

Located in the 382-hectare nature haven of West Bali National Park in Buleleng Regency at the northwest tip of Bali, Plataran L'Harmonie encompasses many distinct ecosystems - from primary monsoon, mangrove and lowland rain forests, to savanna and sea grass landscapes. The region also comprises shallow and deep-sea waters with sandy beaches and coral reefs. West Bali National Park was established in 1941 to protect the rich flora and fauna of the region, most notably the endangered Bali starling and the last remaining wild banteng. Plataran L’Harmonie actively contributes to the preservation of these animals’ natural habitat, while also supporting breeding and release programs.
