Plataran Announces Ecotourism Festivals, in Celebration of Indonesia’s Treasures

BNI Plataran X Trail – West Bali National Park 2017, the first Plataran X Trail series in conjunction with BNI, Asia Trail Master and Egon Trails, marked a successful conclusion with 504 enthused runners from 18 countries competing in three trail challenges: 50 KM, 25 KM, and 7.1 KM. The event also hosted activities outside of the trail run including: a culinary and cultural market, nature conservations including Bali Starling release and mangrove plantation, bonfire BBQ dinner and a sundowner party at the rooftop of the iconic The Octagon Ocean Club, located within Plataran L’Harmonie – West Bali National Park.

Participants gathered early in the morning with pre-race anticipations on the race day at The Octagon Ocean Club, the starting and finishing point for all race categories. Runners of the 50 KM run, longest race out of three categories, marked the start of the event at 5:30 am, which was joined by 93 top international and Indonesian professional trail runners. Then, followed by 25 KM and 7.1 KM, respectively, with 176 and 235 runners. Few of many notable trail runners who joined the run included: Martin Rimbawan, a professional trail runner and one of Indonesia Seven Summits Expedition Team, 2016 Indonesia Asia Trail Master Shindy Patricia, as well as two current Asia Trail Master Champions Manolito Divina from the Philippines and Tahira Najmunisaa Muhammad Zaid from Malaysia..

The 50 KM champion for men was Manolito Divina from Philippines with a time of 5 hours 23 minutes and for woman was Tahira Najmunisaa Muhammad from Malaysia with 5 hours 24 minutes. The 50 KM champions won a once-in-a-lifetime experience to adopt and release the endangered Bali Starling back into the wild. In the 25 KM race, the winner for man category was Hadi Firmansyah from Indonesia, who claimed first place with a time of 2 hours 5 minutes, and for woman category was Ayu Sukarniti from Indonesia with 2 hours 50 minutes. Lastly, the race category with the most participants, 7.1 KM champions were I Nyoman Agus Erawan Saputra from Indonesia with a time of 27 minutes 54 seconds for the man category and the Ni Ketut Cita from Indonesia for the woman category with 30 minutes 19 seconds..

BNI Plataran X Trail – West Bali National Park is the first series of Plataran X Trail and the first nature trail run in Bali with a purpose of bringing a bright spotlight on environmental consciousness and sustainability through showcasing the beauty of nature in West Bali National Park. With one of the main objectives of this event being “to spotlight on environmental consciousness and sustainability in Indonesia“, the event provided activities and awards that delivered opportunities for participants to appreciate the natural beauty of West Bali National Park and to remind once again the importance of preserving our natural environment and wildlife resources. As the result of the race, Jalak Bali birds from the National Conservation Center were adopted on behalf of the winner and BNI to be released to the wild and 1,100 mangrove trees including the rare Sentigi tree were sponsored and planted at the West Bali National Park by BNI.
