Bali Myna: The Endangered Jewel of Bali's Skies
Bali Myna, also usually called as Bali Starling (Leucopsar Rotschildii) is one of the protected birds in Indonesia, its IUCN conservation status is Critically Endangered (CR). Bali Myna is an endemic bird from Bali Island, its habitat is Bali Barat National Park in Buleleng, Bali. Bali Myna is known for its clean white feathers with some black-colored feathers on the edge of its wings and tail. It also has blue eyelids that are similar to the color of their eggs, its white crest also makes them look very adorable.
The things that make Bali Myna different from other bird species is that they like to clean themselves which makes their white feathers spotless and sleek. Another thing that makes Bali Myna very tempting to keep is their chirp and tweet, they have a loud and melodious chirp and tweet, even more to mimicking the sound of other birds or things. One of the unique features of Bali Myna is that although they live in groups they will only have one partner in mating season. This explains the reason for Bali Myna as a symbol of loyalty. In addition to that, Bali Myna also has a unique diet, because they will only eat once a day, by finding insects, larvae, and worms on the ground.
Because of their cheerfulness, beautiful appearance, and the story of Bali Myna, it makes them very tempting to be possessed by bird enthusiasts and rare animal collectors. The population of Bali Myna is plunging significantly after its popularity peaked when the species was discovered. Luckily, a lot of conservation programs have also started when many environmentalists discovered the Bali Myna has been targeted by poachers. Now, certified breeders can breed Bali Myna, and the population has started to grow again.
